Perry Malone’s Journey Continues Through Writing and Service
Perry Malone is the author of the two-part How I Got Over series and the founder of HIGO Ministries. Before his incarceration, he was a business owner whose personal decisions and illegal activity contributed to the loss of his freedom. He was later sentenced to two consecutive life sentences without the possibility of parole and served nearly twenty-seven years in federal prison.
During his incarceration, Perry began examining his conduct, relationships, faith, and purpose more carefully. He devoted time to Christian study, prayer, writing, and conversations with individuals from many backgrounds. His experiences taught him that personal growth requires honesty, discipline, correction, and a willingness to accept responsibility.
Perry also served as a suicide-watch companion, supporting incarcerated men experiencing severe emotional distress and suicidal thoughts. He came to view this work as a ministry that extended beyond scheduled shifts. The experience strengthened his commitment to listening, encouragement, and the value of remaining present when another person is struggling.
Writing became another important form of service. Through his books, Perry documents his experiences while examining broader subjects such as incarceration, family separation, legal advocacy, spiritual development, accountability, forgiveness, reentry, and community support.
Following his release, Perry began rebuilding his life with his children, grandchildren, extended family, and wife, Prinstine. He continues to adapt to life outside prison while developing HIGO Ministries and using his experience to encourage people affected by incarceration, personal failure, and difficult transitions.
Perry does not present his release as the completion of his development. He views freedom as an opportunity to demonstrate what he has learned through responsible conduct, family commitment, spiritual maturity, and service to others.
